About this book

Violet has lived her entire life in the Mountain Realm and has been in a secret relationship with Calum, the Sovereign of her realm, which is completely forbidden. The rule is clear: Every Sovereign must marry from the royal bloodlines of the Seven Sovereigns. When Calum is sent to the Night Realm to begin his engagement to the sister of the Night Realm's Sovereign, he promises Violet he will find a way out of the engagement and make his way back to her. Violet holds onto that promise until she finds herself in the Night Realm, where she realizes everything isn't as true as she thought it was. To make matters worse, the Sovereign of the Night Realm—the most evil and vicious of them all—has taken a strange liking to Violet and is quite curious about her rare heart condition, which is something unheard of amongst fae. Now, Violet must navigate her way through the next several months as she fights an internal battle between her heart and her head. A romantic fantasy filled with forbidden love, plot twists, betrayal, banter, and a steamy love triangle.

One of my favorite fantasy reads of 2024!

"This is one of my favorite fantasy reads of 2024! Once I started reading I could not put it down! This is the perfect book if you loved ACOTAR, Quicksilver, Throne of Glass, and Lightlark! The entire storyline was amazing! I loved the character growth Violet goes through throughout this novel as she discovers herself. I'm normally not a fan of slow burns, but this book is definitely an exception! I love the push and pull between Violet and Sebastian! Part of what makes this book even better is the dual pov between the characters. Having the insight to what Calum and Sebastian are thinking adds so much depth to this book. I loved the level of spice between the characters! The ending wraps everything up perfectly and I definitely hope there is a sequel! ["

Quick read

"Spoilers! Most of these are notes I write to myself while reading the book. I liked the book, but it definitely could’ve been pushed for MORE. I finished it in one and a half days. After finishing the first chapter, the writing or explanation of things could use some help. I’d say a little help with the world building versus just story telling. As another review states, I agree, it does seem like just a rough draft versus the final version, but seeing its #1 in ebook love triangles and 500+ reads, I know more people have already read it…so, I trekked through. Listening to it being read, even by a semi monotone voice was better than reading it myself. Either that or the story got better. I’m glad there was the different POV’s. It shows that Calum actually does care for her. I think the slow burn should’ve been more than a “he falls first.” You get hints that he’s into her first and Adar and Bronwen know as well, but I felt it could’ve been dragged out a little more. I felt A LOT of the second half of the book felt rushed-Sebastian finding the scars and spell on her mind, the I love you’s, and when she stopped taking her pills, the reaction happened quickly. It was kind of ridiculous how the father presumed she would just take over being the last sovereign of their land. The relationship between the two could’ve been written about more as well. He should’ve trusted her enough to explain what she was if he wanted her to take back a kingdom, not just kept in the dark and had her keep taking the pills. The ending also felt very rushed-through the book you read Calum’s POV and how he felt towards Violet multiple times, but it was tossed away so fast, in both his and Violet’s perspectives. I’m not sure I’d read the second book but it would be interesting to see how she takes back a kingdom that no longer exists. All in all, It was a good book, plot and characters and I’d love to see the author grow. I also loved the dedication quote from Klaus, however felt Sebastian was too soft in comparison. ["
