About this book

Violet lives in the shadow of a forbidden secret. Bound by the rigid laws of the Mountain Realm, she is tethered to Calum, its Sovereign, in a relationship that defies royal decree. Because every ruler must marry within the elite bloodlines of the Seven Sovereigns, Calum’s forced betrothal to a princess of the Night Realm threatens to shatter everything they have built.

He promises to find a way back to her, but distance proves to be the least of Violet’s concerns once she enters the dangerous, deceptive heart of the Night Realm. In this dark domain, the truth is a shifting illusion. Violet discovers that her own existence is an anomaly; she possesses a rare heart condition unheard of among the fae, an affliction that draws the unwanted, predatory attention of the Night Realm’s Sovereign.

Known for his vicious cruelty, he becomes fixated on her unique nature, pulling her into a treacherous game of power and proximity. As she navigates a web of betrayal and shifting loyalties, Violet finds herself torn between the man she loves and the dangerous captor who holds her fate in his hands. Her journey becomes a volatile battle between heart and head, where every choice carries a lethal cost.

One of my favorite fantasy reads of 2024!

"This is one of my favorite fantasy reads of 2024! Once I started reading I could not put it down! This is the perfect book if you loved ACOTAR, Quicksilver, Throne of Glass, and Lightlark! The entire storyline was amazing! I loved the character growth Violet goes through throughout this novel as she discovers herself. I'm normally not a fan of slow burns, but this book is definitely an exception! I love the push and pull between Violet and Sebastian! Part of what makes this book even better is the dual pov between the characters. Having the insight to what Calum and Sebastian are thinking adds so much depth to this book. I loved the level of spice between the characters! The ending wraps everything up perfectly and I definitely hope there is a sequel! ["

Quick read

"Spoilers! Most of these are notes I write to myself while reading the book. I liked the book, but it definitely could’ve been pushed for MORE. I finished it in one and a half days. After finishing the first chapter, the writing or explanation of things could use some help. I’d say a little help with the world building versus just story telling. As another review states, I agree, it does seem like just a rough draft versus the final version, but seeing its #1 in ebook love triangles and 500+ reads, I know more people have already read it…so, I trekked through. Listening to it being read, even by a semi monotone voice was better than reading it myself. Either that or the story got better. I’m glad there was the different POV’s. It shows that Calum actually does care for her. I think the slow burn should’ve been more than a “he falls first.” You get hints that he’s into her first and Adar and Bronwen know as well, but I felt it could’ve been dragged out a little more. I felt A LOT of the second half of the book felt rushed-Sebastian finding the scars and spell on her mind, the I love you’s, and when she stopped taking her pills, the reaction happened quickly. It was kind of ridiculous how the father presumed she would just take over being the last sovereign of their land. The relationship between the two could’ve been written about more as well. He should’ve trusted her enough to explain what she was if he wanted her to take back a kingdom, not just kept in the dark and had her keep taking the pills. The ending also felt very rushed-through the book you read Calum’s POV and how he felt towards Violet multiple times, but it was tossed away so fast, in both his and Violet’s perspectives. I’m not sure I’d read the second book but it would be interesting to see how she takes back a kingdom that no longer exists. All in all, It was a good book, plot and characters and I’d love to see the author grow. I also loved the dedication quote from Klaus, however felt Sebastian was too soft in comparison. ["

I don't usually like love triangles, but this one was so well done!

"Wow! This book had me in a chokehold! Violet is a very sheltered and smart fae who is not allowed to really have a life other than spend time with her best friend, Calum. Calum is the sovereign (king) of the Mountain Realm, and says that Violet is the love of his life. When Calum gets sent to the Night Realm to meet his arranged wife, he tells Violet that nothing will change between them, he won't get married, she has his heart. But after Calum has been in the Night Realm for awhile, Violet is brought there by Calum's mother (who she doe snot get along with). Once Violet gets to the Night Realm, she meets Sebastian aka The Shadow King, who is the sovereign on the Night Realm and the brother of Calum's arranged wife. Violet is afraid of, but yet drawn to Sebastian. In the time that Violet and Calum are both in the Night Realm, everything in both of their lives changes, and secrets are revealed that could put everyone in danger. This book was so good, and I cannot wait to read the next one when it is released in June. This does not end on a cliffhanger, but does end in a way that you know something amazing is going to happen in the next book. I am hoping this series continues for multiple books!!!! ["

a fun read

"Not a literary masterpiece but for her first book, which she wrote on her phone, it’s engaging and intriguing. Very fast-paced. There isn’t alot of world building and fairly minimal backstories. For instance, when she goes to town in this new world for the first time, there isn’t a lot of of description of the town or the different creatures, to really give you a picture in your mind of the world itself. It’s told from multiple POV’s which many people enjoy, i just dont know if i’m one of them. Im not sure it was needed here. There are glimmers of really good writing in some places. I think this author has a ton of potential and i look forward to reading future books, especially this series, and watching her grow. ["
