With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)
Briar Boleyn
At Bloodwing Academy, blood is currency, but a dragon's legacy is priceless—and as dangerous as fire. I thought surviving my first year in Bloodwing's deadly halls would be enough. I was wrong. I accidentally woke a dragon—a creature of myth, of death, of fire. Now, every highblood house wants control over me and the dragon's legacy I carry. But here's the truth: I have no control. I'm bluffing my way through every encounter, trying to keep everyone from realizing that I'm not the one pulling the dragon's strings. Then there's Blake Drakharrow. I thought he was on my side, that I might even be able to trust him. But he betrayed me. Now, I'm his only blood source. How messed up is that? In a place like Bloodwing, where power and survival are everything, this bond may well be the death of us both. Unless I can find a way to end it. In this world of vampires, dragons, and lies, there are no happy endings. Just legends—and the darkness it takes to make them. The Bond That Burns is a dark academia fantasy romance featuring a bully villain with Draco Malfoy energy who (eventually) gets the girl, all the tension and banter, and a tantalizingly dangerous blend of court and school intrigue all set in an intricately crafted world with unique vampire and dragon lore. If you're a fan of original mythology, unique world-building, and character-driven romantasy series such as Crowns of Nyaxia, Blood and Ash, and A Court of Thorns and Roses, you won't want to miss out on this riveting new saga.

"This book was definitely better than book 1 and I loved the first book! The slower, emotional parts are heart wrenching and beautiful. The fast-paced action is intense and guttural. The plot is so good. There is major character development and Blake’s character is unfolding in such an amazing way. There is a plot twist that is so awesome and I didn’t expect it at all. The ending is utterly agonizing and I can’t wait to dive into the next book. This series is so good! ["

"Dark, addictive, and frustrating in all the ways that keep you turning pages. This book had me hooked from the start—the tension, the magic system, and the emotional damage were all there. Medea is an intriguing FMC, especially with the reveal that she is a royal fae, yet so much of her potential still feels locked away. The slow (almost stalled) manifestation of her powers was one of my biggest frustrations. For someone with such a powerful lineage, I expected more growth or at least clearer progression by this point in the story. The MMC, Blake, is compelling, but this is where the story falters for me. I like him—I really do—but I needed more. He does not grovel, and that lack of accountability weakens the emotional payoff. Medea accepting him back into her bed without real consequences made her feel smaller than she should be. It undercut her strength and autonomy, especially considering everything she endures. I wanted resistance, fury, and earned redemption—not quiet acceptance. That said, the story is still compulsively readable. The angst is heavy, the world is rich, and the bond dynamics are messy in a way that works. I just needed more balance: more power from Medea, more remorse from Blake, and less emotional shortcutting. Overall, this is a strong installment with dark romance appeal, but it falls short of greatness due to uneven character dynamics. I’ll absolutely continue the series—I just hope the next book lets Medea fully step into who she’s meant to be. ✨ Final verdict: Addictive, angsty, and frustrating—but still worth the read. 4 stars.
