"I have so many feelings about this book. First and foremost, it was a phenomenal story. Like all of Melissa’s books, it was beautifully written, well paced, and made me cry on more than one occasion. I am also so incredibly sad the series is over. I found myself dragging my feet a bit in finishing because I didn’t want it to end which is something I’ve never done before. (For reference…I usually finish Melissa’s new releases in 48 hours max and this one I dragged out for 2 weeks because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye). I remember finishing book 3, in absolute awe of Melissa’s talent for storytelling, with no clue how we were going to get to our happily ever after in one more book. This book is so full of not only action packed moments but also so much heart and emotion. I have loved seeing how much our cast of characters have grown and changed throughout this series and how they continued to grow in this final installment. One of the things I think Melissa does best and the thing that will ALWAYS have me coming back to her books is her mental health rep. She writes real characters who have been beaten down, bruised, scarred, and are at times more than a little damaged. And every single time we as readers get to watch those characters fight like hell to heal and show that even in a world that seems so dark and broken there is still always room for hope. This book/series is great for people who like beautifully detailed and fleshed out world building, amazing side characters and found family elements, realistic mental health rep, political intrigue and scheming, and fantasy romance that is a bit on the darker side (check content warnings even if you’ve read Lady of Darkness already-this definitely has darker themes). "The end of an amazing series!! I loved every book in this series, and this one, I loved the most. This book was filled with emotion, trauma, twists, and, of course, the reveals that make you question everything. Tessa's journey from book one to DOCAF was a ride. Her trauma was rough, and Melissa's writing made you feel every emotion right along with her. Her character arc in this series was incredibly well done, as she goes from feeling worthless and used to embracing her power and who she is. I pretty much lost track of the number of times I cried for her (or with her), but by the end, I was screaming praises for who she had become. Theon, Luka, and Axel all have their own journey as well, and I loved how they grew throughout the series. I really disliked Theon at first, but take back every bad thing I ever said about him. I always loved Axel and Luka, and loved where they ended up in this story. The emotional ride of this book will take you all over the place. It's filled with raw and real moments that sometimes don't end the way you would like. The truths that come to light in this book are jaw-dropping, and you'll get some answers to some questions you've probably had throughout the entire series, and ones you would have never even thought of. Each one was so perfectly crafted, and all the pieces come together right when they need to. The found family here is now one of my favorites. I don't know what I'll do without these characters anymore. They love each other fiercely and will sacrifice and battle whatever is necessary for each other. There was so much happening in this book, and my heart broke so many times. Characters who I had hated I ended up loving. Gaps in storylines were filled and even the characters you may have disliked will end up making you feel emotion for them you never thought you would. The magic, the incredible worldbuilding, the characters, the romance, and everything about this book (and this series) were amazing. I'll 100% be rereading this one, and highly recommend it! — I also listened to the audiobook, and was blown away!! Over the summer, I listened to the audiobooks of books one, two, and three of this series, and couldn't wait to get the audio for the fourth and final book. And let me tell you, it does NOT disappoint!! Laura and Christian make these characters SHINE! They both did such a fantastic job bringing this story to life, and each character's voice was distinct, making it easy to discern who was who. Not going to lie, Laura as Tessa is something I never knew I needed. I loved this audiobook and will definitely be listening to all of these again and again. I wish there were more coming!! ["

great ending for a series

"I honestly really like the ending of the book. This book was the best one of the series and it’s because finally things are being answered. I would’ve gave this book 5 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that the author either doesn’t listen to her editors or needs one. This series could have been done in 1-2 books. She dragged it to 4 and idk if it was a money grab or the fact she did not have/listen to an editor. She goes around in circle for TWO books and just keeps adding more characters a plot points for no reason! It was honestly a pretty frustrating read and not because of the main characters bc they were so FLAWED but just the progression of the book was so confusing! I shouldn’t have to keep going back to make sense of things and even then some of the plots weren’t necessary for the ending , like don’t put it in. Where are the editors!!! I digress but I’ve never been this conflicted reading a series ended well enough and characters really changed and morphed but she could’ve streamlined it better to make the whole series more enjoyable.
