"This is a great second installment to this Supernatural-meets-fairies fantasy series. The story is told from both Sylvie and Jon's point of view. Following the events of the first book, tiny fairy Sylvie continues on her adventures with monster hunters Jon and Cliff. Their search for an enchanted gemstone leads them on a series of misadventures that put their lives at stake. Meanwhile, Sylvie and Jon's friends-with-benefits relationship continues growing now that they can be together for short periods of time in the spectral realm. The first book was pretty tame and YA friendly, but this one gets a tad more risque, with lots of swear words and vaguely worded intimate scenes. Nothing explicit or horribly inappropriate, but probably better suited to a more mature audience. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author. ["

"SPOILERS! Overall...this story was cute. But with all of the comparisons and hints at it being in the same vein as CW's Supernatural - I was expecting more in that regard. I felt like there was too much investment in the fairy side of things and was hoping that instead of a mark, they would have revoked her ability to return and made her...idk...human. I'm sorry to say that I got bored and couldn't finish it. I was so excited for this and it's just not what I was expecting. (Which may very well be great for others, but for those looking for something that leans more Supernatural and less romantasy, skip this one.) ["

"Shot in the Dark by Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley is about Sylvia, a fairy who goes exploring outside of her fairy village of Elysia, which is against the rules. She regularly visits a haunted house with a friendly ghost. Upon visiting, she gets captured by some hunters. These hunters are just like hunters you'd find in the TV show series Supernatural. They're hunting something that is tearing people apart. Now I know what you're thinking, it must be dinosaurs. Like vicious raptors that time traveled to this town. Unfortunately, there aren't any vicious raptors that want to eat our hunters that kidnapped our fairy friend, Sylvia. I know it's very disappointing cause raptors are super awesome and they should be in everything, but there are no dinosaurs in this story. Not to worry this story is really riveting and fantastic even without our favorite prehistoric creatures. But if I was Mary and Anne, the authors, I would put dinosaurs into a story with these characters. You're welcome for the idea ladies. It's a fast paced story even with the world building that the authors put into the story. The world building for the fairies and the world they live in is very interesting and kept me invested. Sylvia is the definition of a book girlfriend for me, she's a redhead, does the freaking most adorable stuff in the book, and she becomes one bad ass fairy by the end! I love her. The Hunters are great as well. Everyone has great chemistry together. I feel like this book was written for me even if I was very skeptical about the fairy aspect of it at first. It's pretty much feels like an episode of Supernatural, following a different set of hunters with fairies mixed into it. It does also have a bit of a romance sprinkled into it. It's not the main focus, it the action fore and foremost the focus. I've been wanting to find something that felt like Supernatural for a long time but nothing hit that same itch for me until I read Shot in the Dark. It was everything I wanted it to be and more! And if you're a fan of Brandon Sanderson, you know what a Sanderlanche is and well the last 150 pages is just that, a Sanderlanche and I loved every page of it! Of course you know me, usually lackage of dinosaurs... is lackage a word? I don't know. It is now... means a point would typically get subtracted but Mary Dublin and Anne Kensley wrote an outstanding story and I think full points are due, I give this 5 Sam and Dean Winchesters out of 5 Moose and Squirels! ["

Fascinating characters that are well developed and diverse. Twists and unexpected turns keep you reading. The characters are well developed with compelling back stories, strong motivation, and goals. The author does a great job developing her characters. This story is well written and will draw you into the characters emotions. You feel all their angst and love. The storyline is fast-paced and very well written, filled with magic, danger, death, politics, intrigue, and subterfuge. The plot thickens, the suspense builds, and the passion erupts! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. ["
