"This series continues to be phenomenal. The humor. The snark. The emotions. The intrigue. The mysteries inside of mysteries. The absurd sexual tension. It was all so so good. It kept me completely enthralled from the first word until the last with three dimensional characters, a captivating storyline, layered world building, palpable tension, unexpected twists, and laughs. I fell head first into the story and was unable to stop reading until the last word. The book started just where the last book left us. The Villain and Evie are still ignoring feelings while they go on ever more dangerous quests in an attempt to save Rennedawn and fix the magic. This book has other characters on separate quests as well - Rebecka and Blade, Gideon and Keeley, Clare and Tatianna - adding more layers to the story. The absurd relationship between Trystan and Evie (who keeps being accidently promoted) is delicious perfection and caused me to once again low key yell at them to just admit their feelings already while rolling my eyes of course. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the grayness of the Villain and his employees who are neither all good nor all bad. They are three dimensional beings - real, relatable people who have scars and flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy beings. You know save a village but also throw people overboard. The story includes all the goodness that you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil entities, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, mystery, secrets, betrayal, revelations, plot twists, and laughs. I am can’t wait to read the next book in the series especially how this one ended. ["

I love you so much it’s terrible.

"Ah, these books are an absolute delight and this one is no different. It is filled with villainy, magic, humor, love, action and suspense in all the best ways. There’s also the mother of slow burns that I thought might just do me in. We get a little reprieve from our suffering in this installment though. <shouts: FINALLY!> I thoroughly enjoy the time I spent between these pages with these characters and in this world. Evie, Trystan and company are a joy to read. You love some of these characters and love to hate others. You can’t help but root for the “good guys” even when they don’t know they’re the good guys. This one also boasts a strong found family vibe that I absolutely adore. While well written, I feel like the story does move a little slow at times but never fear, the action picks up towards the end and it’s quite the ride. Revelations are made and secrets revealed that left me stupefied. I have my suspicions about a few things to come and don’t know how I’ll ever wait to find out if I’m correct. This is one of those books that puts the fun back in reading for me. It would be villainous to miss out on this series. ["

Exactly the read I was hoping for and then some

"I was really in the mood for something fun, lighthearted, and familiar, and Accomplice to the Villain absolutely delivered. This third installment in the Assistant to the Villain series by Hannah Nicole Maehrer gave me everything I was hoping for and a little more. All of our favorite characters return and each one gets their chance to shine this time around. I loved seeing them step into the spotlight with their own moments and arcs, and the dynamic between them continues to be one of my favorite parts of the series. The story also packed in some surprising twists that I did not see coming, and they were the kind that kept me excited to see how it would all play out. On top of that, we finally get some long awaited payoff on threads that have been building between our main characters since the very beginning. Let’s just say it was worth the wait, even if things got a little complicated for them along the way. The pacing worked really well overall. There were a few spots where the shift between characters pulled me slightly away from the momentum or tension that had been building, but it kept me hooked and those moments paid off in the end. The worldbuilding took a big step forward in this book and it was so much fun to experience. We get more of the world, more expansion on how it all works, and more of the magic and lore that give this series its charm. It all blended together in a way that felt natural and kept the story feeling fresh while still grounded in what we already love about the world. Overall, Accomplice to the Villain was exactly the read I was hoping for and then some. It hit the sweet spot between familiar comfort and exciting new developments, leaving me with that happy buzz that comes from a book you just really enjoy. I am rating this one a 4.75 out of 5 and I cannot wait to see what Hannah Nicole Maehrer does next with this series. If you have been along for the ride from the start, you are going to love where this book takes things. ["

"Good writing and lovely for those that love its tropes. Had to quit reading it though halfway when the main villain and protag had to keep on stopping the story anytime some real development was happening. I know this book isn't for me so I won't sway you to stop reading. Just know as the books progressed it kept on feeling like a "Will they or won't they" type situation as I went to the third book. Kinda made me sad too since the main duo is using the fake drama trope of wanting to be possessive of each other, for its main conflict of writing, when they made it clear to one another they should remain professional despite having already kissed in the first or second book. I know its a story conflict since they got other things going on too. But I kept on rooting for the other couples more since they seemed more healthy than the main couple tbh. Its the point kinda... Idk though. I would've liked if they made each other soft instead of processing to eat lemons (metaphor) for half of the chapters and losing some of their character personality along the way. And this coming from someone who used to be a fan of this series too. Just couldn't bring myself to read this one fr :( ["
