About this book

NOTICE TO STAFF: There has been a disturbing increase in cheeriness, sprightly behavior, and overall optimism. Please resume your former dark, ominous terrors at your earliest convenience. -Mgmt Evie Sage has never been happier to be the assistant to The Villain. Who would have thought that working for an outrageously handsome, evil overlord would be so rewarding? Still, the business of being bad is demanding, the forces of good are annoyingly persistent, and said forbidding boss is somewhat . . . out-of-evil-office. But Rennedawn is in trouble, and all signs—Kingsley's included—point to catastrophe. Something peculiar is happening with the kingdom's magic, and it's made The Villain's manor vulnerable to their enemies . . . including their nemesis, the king. Now it's time for Evie to face her greatest challenge: protecting The Villain's lair, his nefarious works, and maybe the entire kingdom. No pressure, Evie. It's time to step out of her comfort zone and learn new skills. Like treason. Dagger work. Conspiring with the enemy. It's all so . . . so . . . delightfully fun. But what happens when the assistant to The Villain is ready to become his apprentice? Contains mature themes.

Love this series

"This second book in the series was just as great as the first. The humor. The snark. The emotions. The intrigue. So so good. It kept me completely enthralled from the first word until the last with three dimensional characters, a captivating storyline, layered world building, palpable tension, unexpected twists, laughs, and understated romance. I fell head first into the story and was equally desperate to read it all at once and also to savor it and make it last. The book started just where the last book left us. Trystan, the Villain, has been captured by King Benedict and Evie’s father is evil. Now it’s currently up to Evie. So just rescue the Villain, save Rennedawn, fix the magic, and try to keep her heart in check. Easy peasy. I am loving the push-pull of the dynamics between Evie and Trystan. It’s delicious perfection and causes me to low key yell at them to just admit their feelings already while rolling my eyes of course. The author once again does a fantastic job of portraying the grayness of the Villain and his employees who are neither all good nor all bad. They are three dimensional beings - real, relatable people who have scars and flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy beings. The story includes all the goodness that you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil entities, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, mystery, secrets, betrayal, revelations, plot twists, and laughs. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. ["

Hold on tight... the plot thickens

"This book is a delightful twist on the classic trope of heroes and villains, offering readers an engaging blend of humor, romance, and fantasy. The story weaves a captivating tale that pulls you into a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, and the relationships between characters are as intricate as the plots they weave. Wright does a masterful job of developing the FMC character, giving her depth and relatability, and showing us just how clever she is!! Be prepared for a lot of "oh shxt" moments you might have missed, but Miss Evie did not. I really enjoyed how the book delved into deeper themes of redemption and the potential for change. Is the villain bad or good? Surprisingly, LOVED this book. I was on the fence on reading it since the first one was meh (except the last 20% of book 1), but this book had a LOT to unravel. The plot thickens.... can't wait for book 3!!! Also, audio was chef's kiss!!! A++ to the narrator! ["
