About this book

Maggie wakes up disoriented and vulnerable in the gutter of Kair Toren, a city she recognizes all too well. She has spent years obsessively reading the unfinished dark fantasy series set in this brutal world, and now, she is trapped within its pages. Armed with nothing but her encyclopedic knowledge of the plot, the history, and the hidden agendas of the ruling elite, Maggie discovers a terrifying truth: while she is magically tethered to life and cannot be killed, the people she encounters are not so fortunate.

As she navigates a landscape defined by rival warlords and lethal court intrigue, Maggie realizes that the kingdom of Rellas is hurtling toward a cataclysmic war she knows by heart. To change the fate of a world she once viewed as fiction, she must forge alliances with a motley crew of assassins, outcasts, and a dangerously appealing soldier. Her interference draws the unwanted attention of dueling princes and powerful dukes, forcing her into a high-stakes game of survival.

Maggie must balance her desire to rewrite history with the growing, complicated bonds she forms, all while fighting to ensure that neither she nor her new companions fall victim to the kingdom’s cruel design.

The Isekai Trilogy everybody has been waiting for

"When the book was first announced, I couldn't believe Isekai had made it into mainstream media, and was cautiously excited. Then, with the increasing amount of snippets and sneak previews, I was hooked and couldn't wa*t for the book to finally become available... I have been a long time reader of the author duo, but this new trilogy feels so fresh and new, I can't help but be in awe of the versatility of Ilona Andrews. Story wise, this feels like a clever issue kai story where actions have consequences and both main characters and side characters are fleshed out, making this somehow realistic fantasy to me, in the same instances that yes there is magic and mythical creatures, but the actions and motivations behind the actions make sense and feel logical, driving the plot forward in a believable manner. Aside from the sheer awesome storytelling, intriguing world building and loveable cast of characters, I also love the humor woven throughout the story, including some meme references. At one specific hilarious mention, I literally laughed out loud. So to sum it up - I loved it so much and I am waiting with bated breath for the next one. ["

The best Ilona Andrews new series yet

"XXXXXXXXXX “You made it seem as if I have much more influence over you than I do.” “I believe I’m the ultimate authority in the amount of influence you have over me.” XXXXXXXXXX “Will it bother you that you won’t be the one to kill him?” I asked. “Watching a child he raised as his own burn everything he built and then dance in the ashes of his kingdom will be much more satisfying.” XXXXXXXXXX I am big fan of Ilona Andrews in general, but this exceeded my already high expectations. This is a fresh new world that plays with tropes in delightful ways. In an age of AI slop and copy and paste fantasy books, this book is fresh. The world is rich and the cast of characters are diverse and layered. Three of the twists/character reveals I did not see coming at all and I couldn’t put the book down. I started after dinner and finished at 3AM (work is going to be rough today). There is also a slow burn romance (literally one kiss only) that I can’t wait to see play out in the next few books. I also appreciate there is no love triangle. This book is also filled with competent characters with rich backstories, motivations, and unique relationships with the protagonist. No one is invincible or overpowered. The book ends on a slight cliffhanger, but IA never leaves us hanging for a happy ending. I am very curious how this series will end! In an age of predictable books, it is so refreshing to just be taken on a journey and swept away. If you like portal fantasy, books with competent characters, rich and spellbinding worlds, or the found family trope, you will love this book. And the best news is that IA is already in the midst of writing Maggie #2 🙌🏻 ["

Read this book!

"Please don’t follow the reviews that call this Outlander crossed with Game of Thrones. It is SO much better. The world building is so fantastic that you slow down reading just to concentrate on the city of Rellas. Maggie is one of the best heroines I have read and she is strong, smart and loyal. Ilona Andrews always has great women, developed families, fascinating characters of various abilities. And the twists and turns will keep your attention to the point that you will immediately reread because you have to fit all the clues together. ["

So enticing and worth a near immediate re-read!

"I loved it! Incredibly gripping and exciting. I've been an Ilona Andrews fan for a long time, but This Kingdom showed a new dimension of their writing style, while fully loaded with all their usual skills. I did not have a very productive day at work because I kept slipping in a couple chapters here and there, and then I read all evening and into the wee hours to finish. Lots of adventure and humor, excellent characterizations especially Maggie who feels very real and is so relatable to any reader. Perhaps the most amazing thing was to see Maggie's realization of how her much-beloved characters fleshed out to became 'real people' to her as she interacted with them. Many wonderful levels happening there as we are delightfully pulled into the kingdom, the players, and magic of Rellas through Maggie's determination to make a difference in her new world and be the best version of herself. What a ride! Need to take a few breaths, but then it will be time to dive back into a more deliberate re-read to better appreciate the richness of This Kingdom Will Not Kill me. ["
