"WOW, this was definitely the one of the best Romantasy books of the year for me. The unique world, the unique magic system, the different structure of friends to lovers, and the absolute wonderful writing made for a beautiful reading experience. And the fact that we got see the FMC yearn and the MMC be devoted was just the cherry on top of my romance loving ice cream sundae. And there were so many twists in the second half of this book - one of which almost had my heart stopping! While I’m disappointed to say have to say farewell to Grey and Kier (book 2 will have another main couple) I think that will keep the series fresh for the reader. We know this couple got their HEA without needing to read 8 books as is the trend in this genre. ["

Too Much Angst

"I enjoyed the characters of Grey and Kieran. The story is told from Grey's POV and she is a well developed character. The devotion and love between Grey and Kieran is a well portrayed. Their very slow burn was too slow though. To the point of wanting to scream, "You Idiots!" They have know and loved each other since childhood and keep misunderstanding each other's feelings to a ludicrous level. Another way, the story went off for me was in the level of self sacrifice the MCs repeatedly made for each other. The tone of the story was also so doleful much of the time. I would have loved the story if there had been more rewards for the MC instead of another great difficulty or loss. There is just so many obstacles and some seemed unnecessary. If that type of angst is what you are looking for, then you will love it, because the book has a unique magical system and a wonderful love story and a hero and heroine who are appealing. ["

"I really wanted to like this book, but it just wasn't for me. The plot was engaging enough, but I couldn't relate to the romance. It's an absolutely me thing; other people loved it. The romance was based, basically, on a misunderstanding plot, and that's a huge no-no for me. I've read other reviews, and where people read yearning, I saw stubbornness; where others felt devotion, I just kept hoping they'd have a substantial adult conversation for once. The plot had some holes, which, though not critical, unnerved me; maybe they'll be addressed in the next book. ["
