A Darkly Captivating Fantasy Romance That Soars

"From the opening pages of The Ever Queen, I was pulled back into the rich and ruthless world that L.J. Andrews built in The Ever King, and this sequel delivered in every way. The stakes are higher, the magic is darker, and the emotional resonance hits even deeper. World-Building & Atmosphere: Andrews expands the mythology of the Ever Seas in bold, thrilling fashion—pirate ships on storm-tossed seas, fae politics simmering beneath the surface, and a kingdom on the brink of collapse. The duality of the sea and earth realms blends beautifully with mythic imagery and brutal beauty. This world feels dangerous, seductive, and utterly immersive. Characters & Romance: The hero, Erik, and the heroine, Livia, carry the weight of their pasts and the promise of a future that’s theirs to forge. Livia evolves from captive to challenger to queen—her growth is potent and empowering. Meanwhile, Erik’s rage, devotion, and transformation are equally compelling. Their dynamic is more than “will they/won’t they”; it’s about healing, trust, and the kind of love that war and betrayal carve into the soul. Plot & Pacing: The narrative drives hard—kidnapping, betrayal, rescue, and rebellion all intersect in ways that feel both action-packed and emotionally layered. While the scope is expansive, Andrews keeps the core anchored around Livia and Erik’s bond. The tension between the two realms, and the shifting alliances, give the story an epic feel without losing its intimate heart. What I Loved Most: Livia’s rise as a queen in her own right—no longer just waiting to be rescued. Erik’s fierce love and his journey into redemption—even when his methods are ruthless, his heart is clear. The moral greys: there are no perfect people, only people choosing their path. The fusion of mythic elements with pirate-fae intrigue. It’s unique, bold, and beautifully done. The ending: satisfying yet full of promise. I closed the book feeling both content and ready for what comes next. In Sum: If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that doesn’t shy away from darkness, stakes, and emotional payoff, The Ever Queen is an absolute must-read. L.J. Andrews has created a story that felt bigger, deeper, and richer than book one—and that’s saying something. Five stars without hesitation. ["

An amazing sequel

"This was such a great duo and LJ’s writing is truly amazing. If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly suggest you do so My favorite part of this book was the character development of the side characters. LJ has created some absolutely incredible characters that are so easy to fall in love with. Each and every one of them is so special and unique. Sewell, Celine, and Jonas are in the running for my favorite side characters and each hold a special place in my heart The romance between Liv and Erik really blossomed in this book. If you’re looking for an MMC that would truly burn the world down for his woman, Erik Bloodsinger is your man. The love those two characters have for each other is so beautiful and the spicy scenes in this book were just as good as book one I did find the pacing of this book to be a lot slower than book one. At times I felt it was a bit more difficult to stay engaged, compared to book one where I was hook, line, and sinker from beginning to end. Howeverrr, the battle scene in this book was EPIC! It took a bit more work to get there but the final battle scene in this book was well worth the effort I truly love this duo so much and it has made its place into not only one of my favorite reads of the year but one of my favorite series. I’m so so so excited to read The Mist Thief and get a whole book of Jonas and continue with the stories of the Ever Seas ["
