The Thorns We Inherit (Tales of Nyxarra Book 1)
Lindsey A. Hart
by Anavrin Jay
In the shadow of the Grand Templum, the cycle of sacrifice is absolute. Ashara and Demetri once shared stolen moments and forbidden promises, daring to love in a world that demanded their lives as offerings to the Blood God. Eight years after their separation, they reunite under the looming threat of their own executions, their history defined by a vow that was never fulfilled.
The sanctity of their final hours is shattered when a druid is found murdered within the temple’s sacred walls, transforming a ritual of death into a desperate, high-stakes investigation. As the inquisition tightens its grip, the line between victim and survivor blurs. Ashara and Demetri must navigate a treacherous landscape of religious zealotry and ancient secrets, forced to choose between the roles they were assigned and the truth they are fighting to uncover.
Their simmering dynamic—a volatile blend of lingering obsession and hardened resentment—becomes their greatest weapon against a divine order that demands blood. Amidst the carnage, Ashara discovers that the rage of a woman is a force that can challenge even the most merciless deities. In this brutal race against time, they must decide if their connection is a liability or the key to shattering their fate.
RebekahAmazing read
"What a whirlwind. The Blood Plagues was a twisted and wild read. The whole story felt wrong in the best way possible. It left me feeling uneasy everytime I tried to put it down. The entire book I was suspended hoping for well freedom i suppose. The tourture was rather creatively morbid and grotesque in this book. The Religious trauma aspect of this book was amazingly well written. From all of the secrets that are revealed to all of the horrific things they did in the name of the Blood God. The feminine rage in this book was quite literally earth shattering. The entire read I had a never ending sense of impending doom and dread. The entire ending I was so angery and felt just as crazed as Ashara probably was. I am left with many questions, and many hopes. ["

Spotts007Unique and enthralling
"The prologue of this book is a nightmare fever dream, and the perfect introduction to this world. I genuinely loved this book, I found the story to be a wholly unique and well crafted tale. It's a horror story, a love story (platonic and familial as well), a tale of control and wrath and ruin and hope, I laughed out loud, I cried, I gasped, I cringed, I raged. 100% would recommend ["

SarahThat was a hoot 😬
"“Don’t look. Don’t look. Don’t look. “ Anavrin Jay took her time with each deliberate stroke while painting this world for readers. It takes a minute for all of the elements to come together and make a full picture, but once you get there you can’t look away. Horror, dark humor, love and perseverance come together to make this an easy instant favorite. It is hard to classify this as anything other than must read. Definitely read the trigger warnings and prepare for this journey to Thromarra. ["
