"4.5 ⭐️ I could not put this down, it was like I’d blinked and was halfway through. I love the writing style, the way it’s reminiscent of times of kings but also beautiful and not stuffy, I felt like I was in their world. The world building is layered and intriguing and I want to know more of it. The little glimpses into the different areas, the time she spent away, I loved getting to see that. I hope we get even more in the next book. And the romance? I’m in pain from the ending. I love how it developed and I’m tormented by what happened. My heart hurts for them. I love a dragon aspect and was hoping for more focus on them, which I think we’ll get in book two and I’m looking forward to more on that area. This is a new favorite book and I cannot wait for the second one. ["

"Overall, this was a nice start to a duology/trilogy. The plot moved and was interesting without having ridiculous subplots with subplots to those subplots that get confusing and jack the story line. It is slow burn, no heat, but you don't miss it. Well written. Some issues- the world is fascinating, but the names are a tad on point. More important are the character in consistencies, mostly Lang. He does a truly terrible thing to save an "innocent" he barely knows, but can't kill his dad? He just goes along with him? He has a dragon. DRAGON. That inability to defy his father part just doesnt make sense. His mom was murdered, he has no sister he has to care about, until the heroine there isn't anything I can easily see that would make a grown man in his position not just grab power for himself by some patricide..and you cant tell me he is just a good guy because he killed, grusomely, his own cousin for little gain. All that aside, I stayed up late reading this book and will definitely get the next. I hope the author gives the girl a stronger moral compass than the first book. With great power comes great responsibility and all that. ["
