Each character has trauma and has developed defense mechanisms as a result, amplified by their powers. Are they beautiful? Aligned with vast wealth? Then we have the reluctant earth goddess with great power she resists using … at first. And then the two physical magicians with their own trauma or those they lost or still seek to protect.
