About this book

Queen Scarlett Aditya is no longer the woman who once navigated the shadows; she has become the tempest itself. Consumed by grief and the bitter ashes of betrayal, she embarks on a relentless path of vengeance. Her sights are set on those who dismantled her world, with a singular, burning focus on the individual who stole her brightest light.

Across the divide, Queen Talwyn Semiria braces for the inevitable reckoning. Haunted by her own profound treachery, Talwyn guards a volatile secret—a hidden truth capable of shifting the balance of a looming war. As the storm of Scarlett’s fury nears, Talwyn must weigh the price of her redemption against the devastating cost of her past sins.

Meanwhile, King Callan Solgard searches for a way to reclaim his stolen throne within a kingdom locked behind ancient, impenetrable wards. Yet, as he delves deeper into a realm of mystery and nightmare, he is forced to confront whether his crown is worth the darkness he must embrace to reach it. Bound by fate and fractured by betrayal, these leaders find their paths inextricably tangled, setting the stage for a conflagration that threatens to consume them all.

Captivating

"I fell so hard for these books so quickly and it kills me that this series is still unfinished. That being said this series is so incredible that I would happily dive right back in from page one regardless of the unfinished status which is rare for me. There's joy and beauty and heartbreak and trials but you always know Melissa will help carry these characters through it all. So far my favorite book was and remains book 2 but just barely because they're all so incredible. The continued world building, character development, and introduction of not only new faces but new concepts , that have been just behind the curtain in previous books, is beautiful and captivating. You will hate characters and then root for them in the next chapter because they're all so complex and their histories and motives have such depth. Even though I read a lot of fantasy; god systems, power explanations, and a plethora of characters can often confuse me but I love how she breaks it down in this book giving you information clearly without it dragging at the story line. Information is often reinforced in the books pretty subtly which is sooooo helpful when we haven't seen a character, type of power, kingdom, or general concept in a while and my brain needs a tiny refresher to stay on track. I cannot speak highly enough of this series and this book is no exception! ["

Fourth installment of a dark romantasy that gives you a chance to breathe (for like, 5 seconds)

"Overall vibe: Dark romantasy that gives you a chance to breathe (for like, 5 seconds) Story shift: Healing, discovery, and forward momentum Romance: New dynamics, new ships, immediate investment Series moment: The world widens without overwhelming you Lady of Embers eases the fallout from the devastation of the previous book without dragging out the suffering (thank you for that, melissa). The story shifts into discovery mode, introducing mysterious new powers, expanding relationships, and bringing new family dynamics into focus while keeping emotional stakes high. What this book brings: -Answers without prolonged agony -Mysterious powers coming into play -New relationships that are immediately lovable (and very shippable) -A sense of new family and belonging More depth for side characters without info overload Reader experience check: Shipping hard (again) Feeling genuinely invested in multiple character arcs Appreciating how the series spotlights different side characters without overwhelming backstory dumps ["

Scarlett is my spirit animal

"I can’t recommend the Lady of Darkness series enough. This series is emotionally charged, expertly written, and checks all the boxes of a dark romantasy series. Lady of Embers is book 4 in the series, and you start to see a major change of pace. Scarlett finally figured out who she truly is and it is M A G I C A L. This was an audiobook reread, and the narration is amazing. I love the way Scarlett’s mind works, how she works things out, and is learning to lean on her found family more and more. The supporting characters are some of the best I’ve read. Cyrus and Cass are two of my favorite people to read about, and I loved watching them grow. This series has had a serious chokehold on me for 3 years and this reread has been so much fun. Scarlett & Sorin are such beautiful characters with a lot of depth. That cliffhanger got me just as much this time as every time I reread the series, so make sure you have the final book in the series to dive into! Melissa is a mastermind, and I will read anything she puts out! If you haven’t read this series, this is your sign!!! 🖤 Read If You Love 🖤 Bad a s s FMCs Ultimate Shadow Mommy Eventual Cinnamon Roll MMC Emotionally Charged Romantasy He Falls First Found Family Secret Identity / Hidden Powers / Hidden Royals Banter and Amazing Supporting Characters Twin Flame & Soulmate Bonds LBGTQ Representation Multiple Point of Views Great Plot with a Slow Burn 🖤 Favorite Quote 🖤 “Until then, they can live knowing I am coming for them. They can look over their shoulders and become so paranoid they think they are going mad. They can go as mad as I did when all hope was lost. They can peer into the shadows and wonder if I am lurking there to end their miserable existence. They can wish I would just get it over with. Until then, they can live in fear of my darkness.” ["
