About this book

Neve, the First Daughter of Valleyda, finds herself trapped within the Shadowlands, an inverted realm of twisted roots and forgotten gods. Separated from her sister Red, Neve must navigate a harrowing landscape where the line between divinity and monstrosity blurs. Her only path to survival—and the only way to prevent the encroaching rot of the Old Kings—lies in an uneasy, volatile alliance with Solmir, a rogue king whose motivations are as shrouded in shadow as the land itself.

As Neve and Solmir traverse a treacherous terrain of bone-mountains and ancient magic, their initial hostility gives way to a complex, simmering tension. They are forced to rely on one another to locate the elusive Heart Tree, a relic that holds the power to either shatter the Shadowlands or grant them dominion over its dark, primordial forces. Bound by necessity and haunted by the weight of their respective legacies, the two must decide how much of their own humanity they are willing to sacrifice.

In a world where every choice carries a heavy cost, Neve discovers that to save her home, she may have to embrace the very darkness she has spent her entire life fighting.

Heartwrenching ending to this stunning duology

"This one is even better than the first book in the series. Hannah Whitten is really good at writing flawed and anguished characters, and I loved that we got so much more of Neve and her story. Lots of slow yearning and almost no spice, and very heavy on the plot and world building. All in all a great read, you should definitely pick up this series. ["

Don’t recommend

"Enjoyed the 1st book of the series but the second never caught my fancy. I don’t think I’ve read over 100 pages in months ["

Nice Ending

"I would have given it more stars if I didn’t feel it was dragging so much the whole situation with Neve. I loved the Twins bond. That no matter what they went through they made it back to each other. This was a good read and a good ending to book 1 ["

Read it

"A little disappointed in the ending but it's still a worth while read. In the first book I didn't want to read the Neve chapters, but in the second book it was the opposite; didn't wanna read the the Red chapters, ha! 4 stars because again, the ending was a bit meh, and because some parts were just a bit slow. Also some things just seemed tied up/ concluded in ways that were a little too convenient. Overall a great book though! ["
