"I liked many things about this book. Loved 1 God. Loved that it felt uplifting and had a great message. The world building was solid. The adventure kept the pages turning. Bren's PTSD was stilted and didn't read as believable. Why was she always flinching? Why was she such a whipped dog? Yes, her father's words were cruel and there was the hint at physical blows, but it never delves in. Ruin was an ass, but... I think the author needs to establish more of the backstory that makes her so fragile and cowed. Often, while the story was great -- I found myself annoyed with the over processing -- so a little more work on pacing and not repeating details over and over, we can keep up and don't need it explained and then re explained. Overall, I'm excited for book 2 and curious where the story will go. I'd also check out some of her other series! Fun read, certainly has all the ingredients of and epic. I agree that if you like 4th Wing or ACOTAR - good chance you'll enjoy this! Bravo ["

"When I originally pick up this series, I was looking for something to ease my FOURTH WING hangover, but I have to say that this happy accident gave me more than I thought I was looking for. A broken FMC, dragons and a MMC that is just **swoon** Bren, our FMC has a rough start to this series, my heart hurt for her, but the way she fights to be stronger, despite everything thrown at her - beautiful! I can understand how sometimes she seems a bit whinny and lacking some maturity, but come on she's fighting mental health - and winning (in my book anyway) with the help of the young female dragon who choses her to be her rider **gasp** that's unheard of. Our MMC - Donovan, yummy! He's an interesting guy IMHO he never once came across as someone who wanted to put Been down and get her out of the "boys only" club. He gave me the impression at the beginning that he was very ridged by the book, but as we progressed through this book he was fighting his feelings, control, ethics and rules as he realized his feelings for sweet little Bren. Secondary characters (squadmates) are the best comic relief, they genuinely welcome Been into their squad - sure there were some non malicious forgetfulness to these guys but they genuinely fight for her and not against. ["

"This book felt very YA to me. I really wanted to like it but it just kind of fell flat for me. How the dragons bond and grow with the rider was interesting. But the MF is a traumatised young women in the beginning of the book and just doesn't really show the needed growth throughout the book to keep me interested. There's a lot of I'm so weak, it was a mistake choosing me, I'm not good enough, I'm traumatized but no action towards fixing any of those issues. And the MM is a 40 year old, chasing his tail after a 19 year old. Just no.. I felt like the building blocks were there, just not stacked well enough to spend money on three more books. ["
