We Burned So Bright
TJ Klune
In the ruins of Caswell, Maine, Carter Bennett learned the truth of what had been right in front of him the entire time. And then it - he - was gone. Desperate for answers, Carter takes to the road, leaving family and the safety of his pack behind, all in the name of a man he only knows as a feral wolf. But therein lies the danger: wolves are pack animals, and the longer Carter is on his own, the more his mind slips toward the endless void of Omega insanity. But he pushes on, following the trail left by Gavin. Gavin, the son of Robert Livingstone. The half-brother of Gordo Livingstone. What Carter finds will change the course of the wolves forever. Because Gavin's history with the Bennett pack goes back further than anyone knows, a secret kept hidden by Carter's father, Thomas Bennett. And with this knowledge comes a price: The sins of the fathers now rest upon the shoulders of their sons. Contains mature themes.
KJ (writeofpassages)This. Glorious. Book.
"This. Book. This beautiful, incredible, awe-inspiring, deep, glorious book. Perhaps my favorite in the entire series, Brothersong absolutely sweeps us up one more time into the lush world of Green Creek and takes us on the most brilliant ride. The devotion of family, of brothers, of pack, the love, the inspiration, it all permeates each page in such an utterly immersive reading experience that is perfect from start to finish. Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time? I will forever be rereading this series. See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book CHARACTERS: I could write a dissertation on all of the characters, but for this one, I'll focus on Gavin and Carter, since officially this is their book. They have the most perfect relationship for two stubborn, headstrong, borderline unthinkingly stupid yet willing-to-do-anything-for-each-other men. Although Gavin is a man of few words, everything he says is pure gold, even when he's in wolf form and not actually speaking. He tries to push Carter away because he loves him so much, which is incredibly universal. I adored watching the disparity between his words and his actions. Meanwhile Carter, equally, refuses to listen to Gavin and leave. Their banter is perfection. Carter, blinded by his need to reunite with Gavin, breaks pack bonds and risks becoming an omega simply for a cross-country road-trip to find Gavin. They struggle to find themselves and then find out who they are as a pair, but it's so worth it in the end. PLOT: Blinded by the loss of Gavin, Carter takes off alone to find him and get him back from Robert Livingstone, the monster alpha hybrid. But Gavin is the only one keeping Livingstone from attacking Green Creek and taking over the territory for himself. Carter chose Gavin, but if Gavin chooses Carter, the whole of Green Creek will be at risk. But the Bennetts won't lose a member of their pack, even when it means fighting the final fight against the biggest threat that's been hanging over them for years. Fast-paced, with wonderful moments of humor, the plot takes hold and doesn't let go until the very end. EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need. 5:5/high. This book is deep. It is intense. It will break your heart and then mend it so beautifully. This book left me in a fog when I finished and didn't let me go for a long time. CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled? 100%. Everything about this book is perfect. Not only the ending to the book, but as the ending to the series. I am 100% satisfied and only wish I didn't have to leave this world. ["

Tammy MoldovanA wonderful end to a fantastic series
"This is the final book in the Green Creek series. The beautiful, exciting story of Carter and Gavin was the perfect ending to the Bennett family saga. TJ Klune is a master storyteller. His books are always so well written that the characters seem to exist outside the pages of their story and as readers, rather then simply reading two dimensional words on a page, we are invited spectators at an outside window, hands cupped around our faces, just watching real people live their lives. This book is no exception, the characters have dimension, they experience growth, and they have full realistic personalities. Gavin and Carter’s love story started in the previous books as an unconventional one - a wolf shifter stuck as a wolf and a shifter who easily shifts between man and wolf. The book begins where Heartsong left off - Gavin has left with Robert Livingstone in order to save Carter and Carter, being a martyr, starts after Gavin alone leaving his pack, including his brother/tether Kelly, behind. The overriding theme of all the Green Creek books is family, is packpackpack. So of course the pack will be part of the story, the journey of Carter and Gavin, and the evil that is Robert Livingstone. Despite being a darkish fantasy, there is also light here, goodness, hope, love, and redemption. Like the other books in this series, along their journey, Gavin and Carter also deal with their individual issues without magically making them vanish. The storyline is rich with emotion including tender moments, hilarity, mundane life snippets, violence, and tense scenes. It gives you all the feels - horror, anger, love, sadness, resignation, and annoyance. This book wraps up all the storylines and while I will miss the pack, I am not worried about unresolved issues. All is well in Green Creek and with the pack. ["
