"I loved firebird but I think I loved Bloodsinger more. Her ability is amazing but also scary. I can feel the story arc for this series is ramping up. I love the continuation of the world building and character development, the end of this book had me in tears (I cant say why because…spoiler). I am in love with the historical fiction feel of the book but with the fantasy twist to it. I am so excited for the next book but sad I have to wait so long! ["

"I have to be honest, I didn't read the blurb before buying this book, so I went in totally thinking I was diving back into Julian & Malina's story; That was not the case. Once I realized it was Lela's & Trajan's, I was pretty disappointed. That said, the story was good, a lot darker than book one, in my opinion, mainly because we find out what ended up happening to Lela after their town was raided. The tension was definitely there throughout the book. I was constantly stressing out about these characters being found out, and/or caught by the emperor, which by the way, is getting increasingly depraved and psychotic. I enjoyed this book, for the most part. There were the occasional eye rolls, but all in all, I didn't hate it. ["
