About this book
Half-Fae Elessia could have had everything. Literally. Since her magic allows her to compel anyone to do her bidding by merely looking into their eyes, the world was at her feet. But after a tragic accident, she is thrown into the Fae king's dungeons and forced to swear a blood oath to him, binding her to his service. Five years later, she's living amongst humans in Ellow and has created a life for herself—as much as she can with the king's promise to call in his debt looming over her. When he finally comes to collect, she is made to infiltrate the human elections to determine whether the current regent is involved in the strange things happening in the land of Fae. With the promise of freedom from the king's claws, Elessia is determined to see it through. Liberty is within reach as long as she can keep the lethal Fae guard watching over her from eliminating her before she unearths the information the king seeks. But as she grows closer to the brooding human regent and secrets begin to unravel, Elessia realizes greater forces may be at play. And she might stand before the choice between her own freedom and that of a nation. Contains mature content. A complete list of content warnings can be found on the author's website.

"I picked up A Tongue So Sweet and Deadly thinking I’d get a fun fantasy romance to pass the time — and instead I got hooked. Like, cancel-my-plans hooked. By the last 10% I was literally reading faster because I needed to know how everything was going to collide. Lessia is bound by a blood oath to a ruthless king and forced to enter a political election trial as a spy. Simple enough… except nothing about this story stays simple. There are layered secrets, shifting loyalties, hidden motives, and an emotional pull that keeps tightening the deeper you go. And just when I thought I had things figured out? The plot twisted again. What I loved most is that this feels like classic romantasy — trials, political tension, dangerous rulers, forbidden connections — but it doesn’t feel copy-paste. There’s a freshness to the execution. The election element added such a fun, high-stakes dynamic, and the constant undercurrent of “who can she really trust?” kept me fully invested. Lessia was such a strong FMC without being over-the-top invincible. She’s clever, strategic, and determined, but we also get those moments of vulnerability that make her feel real. Watching her navigate loyalty, survival, and unexpected feelings was one of my favorite parts of the book. Now let’s talk about the romance… because WHAT is happening there (in the best way). The dynamic between Lessia and the two potential love interests had me stressed. I genuinely have no idea who endgame is going to be, and I kind of love that? The tension feels intentional, not messy. It’s layered with politics and secrets, which makes every interaction feel loaded. Also, I have to mention the writing. Sophia St. Germain has this way of making the world easy to slip into. The fantasy elements are clear and immersive without overwhelming you with info-dumps. And the spice? It’s there, but it never overshadows the story. The plot stands strong on its own, which I always appreciate. The ending though. The ENDING. I did not see that coming. The final stretch felt like everything cracked open at once — reveals, betrayals, emotional punches — and I closed the book immediately needing the sequel. Quick summary: A Tongue So Sweet and Deadly follows Lessia, a woman bound by a blood oath to a cruel king, who must infiltrate a rival kingdom by entering a high-stakes political election. As secrets unravel and loyalties blur, she’s caught between duty, rebellion, and complicated romantic entanglements — all while hiding dangerous truths of her own. In short, this was twisty, romantic, politically tense, and ridiculously bingeable. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) ["

"As a voracious Romantasy reader, this book was pretty entertaining but isn't a literary masterpiece by any means. The story is compelling and has unexpected plot twists! The writing was just okay, in my opinion, but the author does a good job of story telling for anyone looking for a fun and casual read. I would recommend this book to someone who wants a 70:30 ratio of plot to romance. While there are a few spicy scenes, this book is much more about magic and political intrigue. ["
