A Bargain So Bloody: A Dark Fantasy Romance (Kingdom of Dark Magic Book 1)
Vasilisa Drake
He requires a wife. She needs to kill him. All’s fair in pursuit of love and revenge. What’s a vampire to do when the fae who made her an orphan is searching for a wife? Make him choose her and end his life on their wedding night, of course. Brynleigh has been carefully planning this for years. Her plan is simple: date Ryker Waterborn, the Fae Representative’s son, make him fall in love with her, and kill him after they say, “I do.” Unfortunately, it will not be that easy. She won’t be the only one going after Ryker’s hand. Far from it. Two dozen men and women are competing in the Choosing, each searching for their perfect partner. The catch? It’s a blind selection process, and contestants won’t see each other until they have made their choice. Nothing will stand between Brynleigh and her revenge, not even a competition for love. A Game of Love and Betrayal is the first book in The Choosing Chronicles, a captivating enemies-to-lovers, new adult contemporary high fantasy romance. This is a series of three planned duologies with an overarching arc. Each duology will have a happy ending for the couple at the end of the second book.
KatReality Dating Show, but Add Fae and Vampires!
"If fantasy and reality television dating games had a baby, it would grow up to be this book. Our FMC is a vampire bent on revenge for a crime she believes our MMC committed, and the perfect opportunity presents itself in the Choosing - a marriage competition where couples get to know each other without seeing each other. The whole competition is a huge event in their world, an event that's broadcast for everyone to see. She's a vampire and her plan? Win Ryker's hand in marriage, kill him on their wedding night. He's a prominent water fae, his plan? Find someone he can hopefully grow feelings for, because he really didn't want to get married like this and doesn't want to be there. That said, I think his gift to her when they finally meet face to face is the one of my favorite that I have read. (And I read * a lot* of romantasy.) You watch them fall for each other, despite her never planning to catch feelings, and watch our FMC wrestle with whether she wants revenge or love more. Ultimately, her plan fails and the book ends on a heartbreaking cliffhanger. I was so grateful to finish this the night before book two came out, so no waiting for me! I loved this book and author, her books have long since become an insta-buy from me. This series is what I picked up after finishing her Binding Chronicles series, which are set in the same lands. The Choosing Chronicles are set 1,000 years after the end of the BC, so if you have read that series there are easter eggs. You can read this series without the other, the world lore is still explained just fine. This was a good start to a set of interconnected duologies, of which there will be three separate duets featuring different pairings. For spice, this one gets a solid 🌶️🌶️ ["

EclipsedreaderA slow burn with a twisty ending
"I am not a reader that enjoys slow burn books very often or a reader that can read a book with little spice but I enjoyed this book. Brynleigh and Ryker have a beautiful love story but underneath the love is another story of grief and betrayal. As the story continues, it’s hard to believe Brynleigh will follow through with her plan. And then the end…..I was not expecting that. I was not expecting wanting to read the second book but I will be reading the second book now!! Can’t wait to see what happens!!! ["
