About this book

What is inevitable? Emmeline DeLeoste has always talked to the stars. As a member of a fortune-telling warrior clan, her exceptional magic allows her to read the Fates, earning her a prestigious Academy job. But it has also cost her everyone she loves. Roremar Silventa has more responsibilities than any man should. Combined with his Reckless reputation haunting his every step, it's left him burdened in more ways than one. When women start disappearing from the drug-infested Isle of Lyra, Emmeline and Roremar are tasked with finding the culprit due to their unique skillsets. In return, each is offered the one thing they can't refuse. There's only one problem: the pair couldn't be more different. Amid mounting threats from the Fates, and with a murderer creeping closer, Emmeline and Roremar strike up an alliance only to realize that, despite their differences, or perhaps because of them, they may understand each other in a way no one else can. Can they unveil fated pasts and catch a killer before they lose their lives–or their hearts? Everyone on Lyra has a secret, and some things may be inevitable after all.

Slow burn story

"I would give the book a 4.5 and only because I think it was a little to long? We have a magical world, where it appears that mostly everyone has a "tie" to a "fate" - which there were 12 but now are 11 - and Emmaline is a teacher at the academy. She is brought in by the head of the academy along with Roremar to solve murders taking place on the island. I will tell you - who I thought was the bad guy - wasn't the bad guy and left me shocked - and the one secondary character that was murdered left me the same way. Also, the truth about Emmaline's powers. We got unique world building, two main characters that really don't like each other to begin with, friends that are like family, I wish there had been found family at the end - but maybe in the second book? HOLY FATES - Read this!!

"HOLY FATES. This book is so special. Everything in this book flowed so beautifully together - the characters, the relationships, the world & magic, the descriptions & imagery, and even the meddling fates. While simultaneously weaving a delicious mystery and investigative plot, Nicole also manages to give us raw characters, mental health and grief rep, and the most painful slow burn. This book had me gripped from the first damn page, and kept me guessing until the very last page. It made me laugh, it made me yearn, it made me cry, and most importantly it made me feel. I love our flawed and gritty FMC, Emmeline. And I love our protective and sassy MMC, Roremor. I love the relationship they (try?) to build and how they navigate breaking down emotional walls. I can already tell The Fatesworn Saga is going to be another god-tired series after just this book. I am so excited, and scared, to see what else Nicole’s brain has in store for us in this series.
