Watching hate soften into trust, and eventually into a love that felt eternal, was genuinely beautiful. And when Elara wants to “explore” him? The writing takes you there so intimately, not just physically but emotionally too, lingering in those quiet moments in a way that felt tender and vulnerable rather than rushed. Despite the heavier themes, the banter between them keeps the story from ever feeling too bleak. Their relationship felt stripped back and honest, built on loving each other exactly as they are. And yes… the “my wife” moments absolutely got me. But what stayed with me most was the ending. The conversations around life, death, and love were achingly beautiful. Watching Death’s perspective shift, seeing him understand that grief is not proof that love failed but proof that it mattered, hit me hard. "I'm not sure how I will ever recover from this duology! Wow- definitely my top read of the year. This duology had all the emotions and the pure feeling of devastation while reading the second book was unreal. This book picks up right where the first one leaves off. BUT... amazing surprise- dual POV!! We get Vales pov and I loved it!! There wasn't as much gore in the second book as the first, it was def more romance heavy! 🥰 Kael had just been buried and Elara is queen. Her brother and mom are still sick and we found out Vale is death. This book continues with Elara trying to break the curse and save her family. But it also shifts to the relationship between death and Elara. It's about healing from the past, trusting to love again, and knowing there will always be heartbreak but that's what comes with love. I will tell you... when you see reviews of people sobbing while reading this book.... BELIEVE IT... I sobbed reading this book! The emotion was so overwhelming.
