"This completely caught me off guard—in the best way. I loved it. Give me a “why choose” romantasy anytime, but add in dark academia? Immediate yes. This book follows Elodie, who is taken from her reality—where she lives with three of her four mates (one has died)—and pulled into another world where her counterpart has been murdered. Brought there by her aunt, she’s forced to step into this version of her life and uncover who killed her in order to return home. What makes things even more complicated is that her fated mates exist in this reality too… including the one she lost. Trying to keep her distance from them proves nearly impossible, and that tension adds a really compelling layer to the story. For me, the biggest issue was the beginning. I didn’t get enough time with Elodie and her original mates to really feel the weight of those relationships, so when she talks about missing them, it didn’t fully land. There are flashbacks of her life with them, but even with those included, the emotional connection didn’t fully land for me. I did, however, feel her connection with the mates in this alternate reality much more strongly. And that ending?? Absolutely wild. I genuinely have no idea where this is going next, and I love that.
