"This completely caught me off guard—in the best way. I loved it. Give me a “why choose” romantasy anytime, but add in dark academia? Immediate yes. This book follows Elodie, who is taken from her reality—where she lives with three of her four mates (one has died)—and pulled into another world where her counterpart has been murdered. Brought there by her aunt, she’s forced to step into this version of her life and uncover who killed her in order to return home. What makes things even more complicated is that her fated mates exist in this reality too… including the one she lost. Trying to keep her distance from them proves nearly impossible, and that tension adds a really compelling layer to the story. For me, the biggest issue was the beginning. I didn’t get enough time with Elodie and her original mates to really feel the weight of those relationships, so when she talks about missing them, it didn’t fully land. There are flashbacks of her life with them, but even with those included, the emotional connection didn’t fully land for me. I did, however, feel her connection with the mates in this alternate reality much more strongly. And that ending?? Absolutely wild. I genuinely have no idea where this is going next, and I love that. "Why Choose + Fated Mates + Magical Academy + Parallel Universe + Murd3r mystery!! 😍 I absolutely go feral for why choose fantasy romance and I had a blast reading + listening to this book!! 💗 I absolutely love the FMC and the 4 MMCs and can't wait to see what happens next since it ended on such a big cliffhanger. Book 1 is definitely a slow burn with not much spice at all since our FMC is still dealing with the fact that she had to leave her fated mates from her own reality and she is fighting her attraction to her mates in this reality. Plus they are still just getting to know each other and there is some bullying going on a bit as well at first. The tension was definitely HOT though! 🔥 The book definitely picks up pace more around the middle of the story so I know book 2 will be amazing now that we have all the world building established and got to know each character better. I am so impatiently waiting for book 2!! 🎙️I did immersive reading with the duet narration audiobook and loved it! The narrators Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter did an amazing job portraying the characters. I really enjoyed the delivery of Stephen Dexter since he even changed his voice a bit between all 4 MMCs. I definitely recommend grabbing the audiobook since it makes following the story even better! 📖 This is the first book in the series so there is definitely a lot of world building going on plus the author Eva Chase created a whole magical system which honestly took me a while to understand and I might still be a bit confused about certain things but hopefully book 2 will clear it all up for me. It definitely got a bit overwhelming in some instances where I had to take my time to try to understand everything that was going on since a lot of things were happening simultaneously. OMG that cliffhanger happened when I was so invested in the story and really getting into it and falling in love with all the MMCs and how the story was going for our FMC plus we were starting to get some answers about stuff...so yes I am definitely excited for book 2 and to see what happens next!!
