The Bridge Kingdom
Danielle L. Jensen
A shield maiden fights to break the shackles of prophecy—and to overcome the betrayal of the man who broke her heart—in this searing conclusion to the Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology that began with the bestselling A Fate Inked in Blood. The secret of her divine heritage revealed, Freya finds herself on a path that will see thousands of lives lost to the magic in her blood. Desperate to avoid this dark fate, she risks an alliance with Skaland’s greatest enemy to seek answers from the seer who foretold her future—the same seer who sent Bjorn to kill her. While Freya still seethes with rage over Bjorn’s betrayal, the blood oaths that bind her demand that she keep him close as she hunts for a way to avert the looming war. Her magic draws her to the front lines of an old enmity, embroiling her with Nordeland’s Unfated—children of the gods who serve the king she was raised to fear. The same king who, unlike Bjorn, is now willing to fight at her back. For despite the desire that burns hot between Bjorn and Freya, his growing distrust of her chosen path threatens to drag them further apart. As war approaches, gods and mortals must choose their weapons. Yet the fiercest battle will be the one Freya wages within herself. With the magic of two goddesses burning in her veins, she must weave the threads of destiny to decide her own fate: Will she be the shield that protects her people or the curse that destroys them?

"4.50 ✨ 2.00 🌶️ Overall: This fast-paced romantasy will draw you in and keep you hooked! There are so many things going on! Lots of exciting new magic and story lines to follow with good character growth throughout the story. Tropes: 🔥 obsessed MMC 🧝🏼♀️ badass FMC 🗡️ betrayal + revenge 🔥 first person dual POV 🧝🏼♀️ “mine” 🗡️ completed romantasy duology 🖤 war violence Bookish Thoughts: I was so incredibly excited to read this second and final installment in the Saga of the Unfated series!! I loooooved that this story started literally the minute that the first book ended. I would definitely recommend reading them back to back or doing a reread of some or all of the first book before starting this one! Freya continues to have all of her sassy, badass traits. I appreciate that we still see character growth from her as the story continues. She does a much better job in this book of working to understand those around her, their plans and backgrounds, and using all of the information she gathers to her advantage. I found myself worried at the beginning that Freya would be naive still, but I feel like she came into her own throughout this second book! Bjorn is still a hottie obsessed with Freya. I’m still obsessed with him and literally all of his lines. The banter between him and Freya (and other characters) is incredible! Even amidst all of the drama, the fighting, the intentional miscommunications and deceptions, the writing is still so FUN. There are still moments where you’ll find yourself smiling and laughing, which I think is really great in a book with heavier themes. Also, I simply MUST mention that the vocabulary in this series is unmatched. I love all of the old school vocabulary and the eloquence of the characters’ speaking styles. There were a LOT of secondary and tertiary story lines to follow. Some of these were great; others were a bit confusing. Overall, I thought that Jensen did a good job of giving readers more insight into the world, the magic system, and left an opportunity to maybe eventually write more stories with these characters or just in this world. "Book 2 in the Saga of the Unfated A highly emotional, fiery Viking forgiveness/redemption romance that picks up where book 1 left. I was immediately transported back into the story and remained invested in the conclusion which was a journey of emotions. The book is heavily centered around Viking lore, Greek mythology, and magical runes. It's packed with angst, wit, banter, secrets, betrayal, sacrifice, and political Viking intrigue. Well-developed, strong-willed characters who face impossible choices. Intricately detailed world building that paints a picture. Strong plot to keep the reader engaged. "As for your forgiveness, Freya, you haven't given it because I don't deserve it. The only way I will ever have it is by earning it." ["
