4.5 Outstanding debut!

"Ok first the reasons for the 4.5 rating. This book had really beautiful moments writing wise and most of the writing was really good. However, there are quite a few errors that I'd say are phrasing or wording. Normally I don't care about errors but the whole book is filled with them. It's not enough to ruin the book but it definitely was a little off-putting. I specifically thought more than once that maybe this book had been translated from another language. At the end it does say the author is from Ukraine. But honestly, it wasn't enough to put me off the whole story. I just feel it's worth mentioning. The second thing is the modern words that just 100% didn't fit the story. Sporty, STD, crayons, etc. Normally I'm not bothered by a few modern words or ideas and this is an alternate world but it's just jarring to be reading about a royal ball and then a "sporty" carriage pulls up. Third, I think that the overall world building could use a polish. I realized like halfway through that I don't even know if most of the people are human or not. Are destroyers human? Is the supporting cast human? I have no idea. In some places they had more technology. Just maybe some more backstory would have been good. I know that seems like a lot of negative, but really small potatoes in comparison to how much I actually loved this book. It's truly a dark fantasy and those are few and far in between. It's violent, and gritty, and brutal. There's humor, mystery, adventure, murder, personal growth, loss. It really checked all the boxes. Our main character feels real and relatable. And she's not an idiot who I wanted to throttle. I was rooting for her. And she seems to learn from her mistakes and bad choices and I see that becoming more prominent in the second book. There was really no spice in this book and I found it to be refreshing. Most "fantasy" books I pick up these days delve into erotica halfway through and I'm tired of it. I could tell this author put a lot of time into the overall story here. There's things you definitely don't see coming and even one of the things you knew was probably the case ended up being a whole lot worse than you could ever imagine and I was still surprised. This book manages to pull at your heart strings in a meaningful way. I found myself invested in a character who only had like 1 chapter. Nothing feels shallow or like a plot Device. Everything and everyone in this book is deliberate. You'll know what I mean if you read it. I think this has the potential to head into RH territory but something tells me it won't. There's a MMC to lust after of course. And something tells me that in a later book when the 2 of them have a spicy scene, it's going to be epic. If you love dark, violent fantasy with well written Characters who feel real this is the book for you! Dying for the second one. Oh, and it doesn't end on a cliffhanger really. More of a "hook." ["

And I’m left speechless

"4⭐️ This book started really good but I did get bored from the 40% mark until around 75%, but then we get towards the end and this book turns into gold. Marvelous cliffhanger that just left you wanting the second book right now. It’s great! So far the FMC is really good. She a strong FMC but vulnerable at the same time. I cannot say too much about the MMC as we found out more about him towards the end but so far I like him as well. The story became very intriguing and certainly left you wanting to know more. ["
